Welcome to 1348 Bikery
This idea was born out of my love for baking and biking. I make homemade sourdough bread and sourdough pastries (yes! You heard that right). Sourdough adds an amazing depth of flavor to anything that can be made with flour-from cookies, to scones, to sourdough pie crusts and beyond! I offer pickup from my local residence here in Santa Barbara on Sunday after 4 or 5 pm (near handlebar on De La Vina Street).
About

Hi, I am Emilio. After getting a knee injury in 2017, I had extra time that I used to learn to bake bread and pastries in a small kitchenette. Very quickly, I began to share my baking hobby with others. As I experimented with sourdough bread, I began to realize that the natural levain (or sourdough starter) can be added to other pastries besides just bread. This can include cookies, scones, cakes, pie crusts, and so many others. I am now sharing this passion with others, and I hope that I can share it with you as well!
I was educated at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and I am Civil Engineer here in Santa Barbara. The year 2020 was a year of exploration for me as I experimented with my two passions-baking and biking. This idea was born out of my love for baking and biking-hence the name bikery. In the beginning, I combined my two hobbies by making sourdough bread and delivering my products by bike to people between Montecito and Goleta. I was biking somewhere between 25 and 60 miles to deliver bread.
Why 1348
1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 is my favorite Bible verse and making sourdough bread takes a lot of love and patience:
Love is patient, love is kind.
It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.
It always protects, always hopes, always perseveres.
Love never fails.
